Even though Cabarete is most famous for its amazing wind conditions and its beautiful bay, the town and its surroundings have many different types of activities to offer, no matter what your passion is. You can fill your holiday with as many or as little activities as you want, ranging from kiteboarding to surfing, from mountain biking to horse back riding, from dancing to flying the trapeze. Enjoying the wind


Cabarete is a fantastic spot for kitesurfing with loads of possibilities both for advanced kiters and beginners. Click on the box for more information.


Cabarete, which was first discovered by windsurfers, is still a great windsurfing spot, with some great places to rent gear or get some classes.


On days when the wind is a little less strong, Cabarete Bay is fantastic for sailing on a Laser or HobyCat.

Water fun


Encuentro Beach, 6km away from Cabarete, is one of the best surf beaches of the Caribbean. Lots of schools that also rent out boards are available on the beach.


Around Cabarete and Sosua are some top-notch diving spots. Especially popular is wreck diving. At an hour and half drive towards the East aficionados can even go cave diving.

Stand-up paddle

In the mornings, before the wind picks up, explore Cabarete Bay by stand-up paddle, or play in the waves on the reef. Bahia Residence has two paddle boards available for rent.


On mornings or on days when there is little wind go snorkelling and explore the reef.


Explore the Lagoon of Cabarete by kayak, or explore the back country by taking a longer trip onto the Yasica river to the ocean.

Deep sea fishing

Go deep sea fishing for Mahi Mahi (dolphin fish), tuna, marlin, tripletail, wahoo, and sharks, or go to river Yasica with the family and learn how to catch crabs, throw casting nets and fish from a dug-out canoe.

White water rafting

In the mountains of Jarabacoa at about an hour and half drive away from Cabarete are some really great white water rafting opportunities.



Experience the thrill of rappeling down mad-looking waterfalls into the amazingly cool water pools of El Choco National Park, just behind Cabarete.

Mountain biking

El Choco Natural Park, which stretches out over 77km2 behind Cabarete, has thousands of trails that can be explored by mountain bike. Either rent a bike and explore on your own or go on a tour.

Horseback riding

Explore beautiful El Choco National Park on the back of a horse. Great for families and people who have never ridden before although experienced riders won't be disappointed either.


The Dominican Republic offers many national parks and protected areas where the hiking is real good, ranging from the three-day hike to Pico Duarte (highest point: 3,087m) to treks of a few hours in El Choco National Park, just behind Cabarete.


Latin dance

Take a few salsa, merengue or bachata dance classes, and show off your new dancing moves on Thursday nights n the roof top of Ojo's where the whole of Cabarete enjoys Latin dancing.

Pamper yourself for an afternoon at one of the several spa retreats in Cabarete.


Cabarete has a number of great massage therapists, with some specialized in sports massage.

Trapeze flying

Great for kids but also for adventurous adults. Learn how to fly on the trapeze and feel free as a bird.


Enjoy a morning of go-karting close to Puerto Plata. The park has three different tracks that can be accessed as often as you want when you buy the entrance ticket. For 8-years and up.


Located between Cabarete and Sosua this is the only ACCT certified zip line course of the North Coast. Zip from mountain top to mountain top, over the valleys and down into a newly discovered cave.

Swim with dolphins

Dive with dolphins, carress sea lions and swim with sharks at Ocean World, just past Puerto Plata. Fun day for the whole family guaranteed.
